Soccer is known as one of the most
glamorous sports in the world. A statistical report by FIFA revealed
that more than half of the world’s population over the age of 4 watched
the 2018 World Cup. The number of people who watched all 64 matches
reached 3.572 billion people, almost half of the world’s population. It
shows how much love for people having for soccer games. So how to do a
live stream for soccer games?
I. Live streaming introduction of soccer games
A game of standard 11-a-side soccer consists of 10 players and a goalkeeper. The total is 22 players. They play against, defend, and attack on a rectangular grass pitch. Compared to other ball sports, the size of a soccer field is much larger. As a result, live stream often requires multiple camera positions and angles to capture the players’ actions in real-time. It provides a better viewing experience for spectators outside the stadium and monitors the match in real-time, allowing the referee to resolve controversial issues better.
So how to set up multi-camera deployment for live streaming of a 90-minute soccer game?
The above picture is the 2010 World
Cup at Ellis Park. It has 32 standard cameras deployment and covers
almost every corner of the stadium. The typical multiple shooting
deployment can be divided into the primary camera, overhead, bleachers,
access control lines, and other shooting locations.
Of course, this is for this kind of mega international event required
to deploy the cameras. For the live streaming for soccer games,
depending on the venue’s size, they will capture the image of players on
the field that can meet the requirements of the live event.
In the past, videojournalists drove a live-streaming car into the
stadium, carrying long and messy cables back and forth. Due to the
wire’s length, the cameraman can only fix the camera at a specific
position to capture the game as possible, but not the details of the
field. Some of the exciting moments may be missed.
Ⅱ. Advantages of BeamLink-Ultimate: All-in-One multi-camera solution
The BeamLink-Ultimate makes it easy
and convenient to a streaming by its multi-camera and anti-interference
advantages for such live events with large venues. In the traditional
way of the wired live stream can not meet the demand, and inconvenient
to move the machine, wireless video transmission devices for
multi-camera live streaming are undoubtedly a better choice.
There are many kinds of wireless video transmission devices in the market, and different devices are needed for different scenarios. A video signal needs to occupy one channel for wireless video transmission and avoid interference between adjacent channels. The channel spectrum resource is limited, which significantly limits the number of available channels.
Compared with standard video transmission, which requires multiple channels, BeamLink-Ultimate only occupies one RF channel to improve channel redundancy and save more available channel spectrum resources. Four cameras can transmit four video signals with only 1~2 channels.
Meanwhile, BeamLink-Ultimate combines 4×4 MIMO and Beamforming technology, which has advantages over standard wireless video transmission in terms of transmission distance and image bit rate. Beamforming technology makes the wireless signal beam more directional during information, which allows the wireless signal to be transmitted over longer distances, with more vital anti-interference ability and thus more stable.
The one-to-one intercom mode can better help the director and
cameraman communicate with each other by voice, thus improving work
efficiency.
Ⅲ. Application
To further implement the National
Fitness Program, Xinxing Streets will create an intense atmosphere for
the 31st World University Summer Games to be held in Chengdu in 2021 and
help promote football development in the new district and the
construction of Chengdu as a “World Famous Events City.” On August 1,
Xinxing Street held the preliminary match of the 6th “Tianfu Cup”
Football League for All People’s Fitness in 100 Villages (Communities)
and broadcasted it live online.
The specific deployments are as follows:
① The streaming team deployed four
cameras in multiple places on the soccer field according to the around
environment, covering the entire soccer field to the maximum extent. The
transmitter transmits the video signal collected from the cameras. The
cameraman can flexibly move the camera and deploy it according to the
director’s needs using the voice intercom function of the
BeamLink-Ultimate.
② The director processes and pushes the video to achieve real-time
live streaming. The video signal is kept clear, stable, and smooth
throughout the live streaming process.
Ⅳ. Concluding remarks
In the actual application, BeamLink-Ultimate has so many great features: multi-camera, low-latency, high-quality voice intercom. It features the excellent transmission of various large and complex live streaming scenes. It can help the streaming team save more resources, making the live broadcast more convenient and concise. BeamLink series is the first professional, multi-channel wireless HD video transmission system launched in the industry. It is widely applied to the broadcasting, film, television, and other filming and production industries. As a terrific video transmission system, its stable and reliable performance has won the praise of TV stations, government, enterprise customers in many sectors, etc.
